Short background story

Rwanda and Nigeria enjoy long established bilateral relations. Specific cooperation has been developed in the following areas:

  • Rwanda is a beneficiary of the Technical Aid Corps of Nigeria (volunteer programme) in the Health and Education sectors.
  • Cooperation in military training for RDF officers at the National Defence Senior Command Staff and Junior Command Staff courses in Nigeria, and for the Nigeria Defence Force Officers, participation in the Senior Command Course in Rwanda.
  • Cooperation in Air Transport based on the signed Bilateral Air Service Agreement and grant of the 5th Freedom Right to RwandAir for its flights into Abuja and Lagos.
  • Nigeria has a considerable investment portfolio in Rwanda with proposed Real Estate Development projects as well as the operation of subsidiaries of Nigerian Banks (Access Bank and GT Bank).
  • Nigeria grants visa on arrival to Rwandan diplomatic and official passport holders.

The Mission of the High Commission is to strengthen bilateral and multilateral economic co-operation between Rwanda and Nigeria as well as the accredited countries of Burkina Faso, Chad and the Republic of Niger.

Mandate

The Mission's mandate is to give expression to Rwanda's foreign policy and National Interest through diplomatic engagements.
